John with moose called in and taken with recurve 1990John with blood dog Hannah and big bull by recurve 1994Founder of Voyageurs Grand Nord, John, in conjunction with Luco Caribou Adventure, is a caribou hunting- expedition tour guide in Quebec, Canada. Fortunate to have fished and hunted in Canada since boyhood, John presently spends 2 months per year in the sub-arctic. He is a licensed leashed tracking dog handler and a licensed hunting guide. John is passionate about working dogs and has nearly three decades experience with the leashed tracking dog concept. His wounded deer tracking service is oriented to the trophy hunter and is based in west-central Illinois.

John is, to the many who have met him through caribou hunting or the blood tracking service, cariboujohn or trackerjohn. The far north and his dogs are indeed his passions. What many do not realize is the extent of his hardcore bowhunting experience. A lifelong archer and bowhunter since the late 1960’s, John is fortunate to have enjoyed many bowhunting adventures. With homemade equipment, he has been very successful hunting and taking whitetail deer, black bear, caribou, and moose. Bowhunting for him has been a lifestyle.

Having attended Syracuse University on an athletic scholarship, John graduated in 1977 with a background in the biological sciences, psychology, and education. He has over the years been able to incorporate modern learning theory to his training experiences to develop a training program that brings blood trailing dogs to their full potential. Many incredible recoveries have been credited to his dogs.

As the demands of guiding and tracking have increased, time for John’s own bowhunting decreased. A difficult decision was reached in the mid-late 1990's when he decided to devote all of his time and energy to the tracking service and guiding. This 100% focus, without the time conflict or emotional distraction of he himself bowhunting, coupled with the vast knowledge base acquired from his own earlier bowhunting, has proven extremely productive for his many caribou and tracking clients.

John has an intense, year round commitment to his hunter’s success. Most all of his present interests and activities are offshoots or sub-sports of guiding caribou hunts, or of his blood tracking service. Interests include camping, whitewater canoeing, photography, videography, hiking, trout fishing, and various dog-related activities. Constant refinements of these skills have contributed greatly to the success and enjoyment realized by his clients.

John and his dogs have appeared in North American Whitetail magazine, Traditional Bowhunter, Professional Bowhunter Society, Bowhunter, NY Bowhunters Fulldraw, Buck Masters, Petersen's Bowhunting and others.
